About "Thomps"

I am a creative, super-organized, thorough, details-driven person who loves to learn, loves to help, and loves to inspire.

I began my post-college career as a teacher and coach. I taught American History, World History, American Government, Current Issues, Economics, Psychology, Geography, and Speech. To be a great teacher, you have to (1) Love the material / subject matter (2) Find fulfillment in helping young people find themselves. I did both. And alongside teaching, I coached.

I was Head Boys' Basketball coach for 5 years.

I was Head Cross Country Coach and Head Distance Track Coach for 7 years. It was a credit to my runners, our consistency in training, and our philosophy to develop speed and endurance simultaneously, that they broke 7 school records in those 7 years. Five runners ran collegiately.

The rest of me? My interests and hobbies span a wide arc. They include history, economics, film, sports, fitness, running, and more. Also, as you can see in the picture to the left: I have a fantastic wife and two terrific boys. We play board games. I usually lose. But I beat them at ping-pong, so balance is preserved and there is harmony in our home.

One component that is at the center of my life: Success is achieved just as often by asking the right questions as it is by having all the right answers. Clarity and purpose come to those who ask the important questions first and pursue the answers to those questions second. I've had to learn that. Life isn't and hasn't always been easy, but what I can control is (A) How I respond to what happens to me, and (B) Asking myself the right questions before rushing into the fray to find the answers.

Cheers,

t
